RFG Foods recently clinched the prestigious Dairy Product of the Year Award at the highly acclaimed South African Dairy Championships 2023 for its 600g Ayrshire Mozzarella, produced exclusively for Woolworths. This product emerged as the leader among an impressive array of 929 dairy products from 71 renowned producers.

Con Costaras, Managing Director of Fresh Foods Division, says that the group is incredibly proud to have scooped this coveted title, which highlights the company’s commitment to quality and innovation in the industry.

“This recognition is a testament to the arduous work and dedication of our talented team, who continuously strive to create exceptional products. We aim to continue pushing boundaries and delivering superior dairy products to our valued customers,” says Costaras.

In addition to the esteemed Product of the Year award, the Dairy team at RFG Foods also attained the Qualité Award for the Woolworths Ayrshire Mozzarella, further solidifying its commitment to producing products of exceptional quality. Moreover, the team received the SA Champions Awards for four of its other outstanding dairy products, highlighting their versatility and expertise across multiple product categories.

The Woolworths Ayrshire Mozzarella stood out from the competition due to its exceptional taste, texture, and quality. The product captivated the judges’ taste buds and impressed them with its unique characteristics, setting a new standard in the dairy industry.

“We are proud of our collaboration with Woolworths, a business that values quality as much as we do,” says Costaras.

Robert Sudell, Operations Manager of RFG Foods, says the team is delighted to be recognised. “Mozzarella has been the core foundation of RFG Foods for over 25 years,” says Sudell. “Our small, artisanal cheese team, under the guidance of cheesemaker Kerwick Boonzaaier, are true experts. They use a very manual process, cutting cheese by hand, supported by Italian ingredients and equipment, to create mozzarella that is on par with the best in the world.”

The SA Dairy Championships celebrated a remarkable milestone this year; the 190th edition of the biggest and oldest dairy competition in Africa. The event brought together industry leaders, experts, and enthusiasts to celebrate excellence in the dairy sector.
