We strive for continuous advancements in terms of our products, processes and packaging.

RFG has a dedicated new product development (NPD) centre based at Groot Drakenstein with a second facility in Gauteng, which concentrates on unlocking growth through innovation within the various categories in which we operate.

In terms of packaging, RFG has been first to market with several new features that have since become the industry norm, including:

  • Easy-open cans, no can opener necessary.
  • Snap-on plastic caps for cans.

In 2015, RFG took a bold move and extended into the adjacent fruit juice market. Today, Rhodes Quality fruit juice is the number two brand in South Africa – only six years after entering this highly competitive category. In terms of flavour extensions, the Group has added new offerings to its juice range, extended its Hinds Spices range and introduced a 200 ml Rhodes Squish pack format to its baby food stable.

Environmental change and food choice awareness are driving the increasing popularity of plant-based eating. In response to this global shift, the Group’s fresh foods division produces a range of plant-based protein ready meals and components and dairy-alternative products. Further innovation include “Carb Clever” and low fat ready meals, vegetable juices and kids’ and baby meals that contain no added sugar, preservatives, colourants or flavourants.
